MINISTRIES

To help you get to know us, below is a partial list of the ministries available through GSLC.

Being church together while praising God, helping the needy,

and encouraging each other is a powerful thing.

WORSHIP

Sunday worship opportunities currently include two distinctive styles of worship.

The 8:30 a.m. service is contemporary in style, with music by the "Believers Fire" Praise Band.  This is the less liturgical of the two styles.

The 11 a.m. service is traditional and liturgical in style.  It is more "high church" on festival days.  The pipe organ and choir lead the musical worship.

YOUTH AND FAMILIES

Christian Education opportunities abound at Good Shepherd.  We offer Sunday School classes from age 3 through adult.  Youth in grades 7 and 8 participate in a 2-year confirmation curriculum.

The young and young at heart are all welcome to participate in the special educational message Pastor Van De Motter gives during each worship service.

Pastor also offers a weekly Bible Study.

OUTREACH

Opportunities for outreach abound at GSLC and beyond.  Church members are active in the community's version of "God's Work. Our Hands. Sunday," the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive, Operation Christmas Child, and providing for needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, to name just a few.  The facility is open to such community groups as Girl Scouts, the Blood Bank and more.  Our Evangelism Team also has new projects in the works to reach out to the un- churched.

Music

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church offers a variety of music for all ages.  Like to sing? The Chancel and Cherub Choirs are great places to start. Come sing and praise God with your voices!  One of these two groups provides an anthem for worship weekly.  Looking for a way to glorify God through music, but singing isn't your forte?  The hand bell choirs are always looking for new members!  If you can read music, the Chancel Bells group is for you. Reading music is not required for the Genesis Bells group.

Social Ministry

Engaging in fellowship helps us grow to be more like Jesus.  The Social ministry team encourages "hospitality time" after each worship service.  The gathering space might be nicknamed "the conversation station!"  Goodies and drinks abound.

These disciples provide a monthly bingo time at the County Nursing Home, and they make hundreds of tied quilts yearly for Lutheran World Relief and local needs.

Other Ministries

The following are just a few of the other ministries that the people of God at GSLC participate in:

  • Prayer Team ministry
  • Nisua baking
  • Men's Maintenance Ministry ("3 M's")
  • Sunday Worship Stewards
  • Altar Guild, supporting worship from behind the scenes

OTHER WAYS TO SERVE

If you are looking for a way to serve the Lord, no need to look further. We have areas in which everyone,                                                                   from all walks of life, can serve. If you have any questions about any of these fields please let us know.

All of our different areas that you can serve are broken down into specific groups. We hope that you will be able to find a ministry that you can best use your talents in. This means if you are a young man with a strong back, we would love your support in lawn care around the church or the Men's Maintenance Ministry.  If you love children, spending time in the nursery on Sunday mornings would be much appreciated. See the full list of ministries.

  • Lawn Care around the church building

  • Greeters at the doors before services

  • Working inside the nursery

  • Serving on the worship team

A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR

Rev. Patrick J. Van De Motter

By grace you have been saved, this being a gift from God. But, we have such a hard time living into that grace.  We are sinners, but also we are saints.  This conflicting message is just one of the paradoxes we live into every day.  We are all flawed and that's OK.  God love us just as we are.

"Just as I am without one plea,

That thy blood was shed for me"
